Researching land use and land use change | University of California, Berkeley
Welcome to the LUC Lab at UC Berkeley. We research land use, land use change, and anything else we find interesting or important. Our research focuses on real world questions about how people make land use decisions, how policy impacts these decisions, and how these decisions ultimately impact the environment and people. Methodologically, we primarily focus on quantitative research driven in part by economic and social-ecological systems theory. Geographically, we have worked from California to China and Africa to Argentina. A growing part of our program focuses on communicating our science to the public and impacting California’s landscapes. Take some time to look around the website, check out our publications, and please don’t hesitate to contact us should you have questions or research ideas.
